Description
This roasted red pepper pizza sauce is packed with bold flavor from fire-roasted tomatoes and roasted red peppers and aromatic garlic and herbs. It’s the perfect homemade alternative to store-bought sauces. Use it on pizzas, as a dip, or in pasta dishes!

- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small sweet onion, peeled and diced
- 3 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
- 6 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon fresh oregano (or 2 teaspoons dried)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (taste and add more if needed)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 12-ounce jar roasted red peppers, drained
- 1 14-ounce can diced fire-roasted tomatoes
Instructions
- Sauté aromatics. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add diced onions and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened. Stir in minced garlic, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and oregano, ensuring everything is well coated. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to deepen the flavors.
- Add peppers & tomatoes. Stir in the roasted red peppers and fire-roasted tomatoes. Increase heat to medium-high until the sauce starts to bubble. Let it bubble for about a minute, then reduce to a simmer over low heat. Cover and let cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Blend & serve. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Transfer to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Use immediately or transfer to airtight containers. Store in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
Notes
- Blend to desired consistency. Sometimes you might want a chunkier pizza sauce! If so, blend by pulsing the sauce until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Storage. If not using immediately, wait for pizza sauce to cool completely before storing in an airtight container of choice. I typically use a glass jar!
