Blood orange maple pecan yogurt bowls make a delicious and uniquely flavored, lightly sweet breakfast for any day of the week. They're quick and easy to make, hearty and delicious to eat. Perfect for citrus season!
Yogurt and Citrus Are A Juicy Breakfast Haven.
And you NEED to try! It's something about the juicy, sweet-tartness of the citrus and the creaminess of the yogurt together that makes these simple yogurt bowls special. I like to think of it as an a deconstructed Orange Julius or orange creamsicle, in that the citrusy and creamy elements taste like they're meant for each other. Add pure maple syrup, some crunchy pecans and dried cranberries, and the result is a juicy flavor/texture bomb in your mouth.
Honestly, if this is what a seasonal breakfast can taste like, it makes winter seem not so bad! Not to mention, I give this orange yogurt bowls bonus points for being meal prep friendly - perfect a grab and go breakfast on busy weekday mornings. Key Ingredients
- Greek yogurt - I recommend whole milk or 2% plain Greek yogurt, or if you're in the mood for a shortcut, you can use a lower sugar vanilla yogurt and skip the vanilla extract (I love Siggi's vanilla!).
- Blood oranges - I used blood oranges in this recipe since they're pretty and fun, but you can use Cara Cara oranges, mandarines, navel oranges, or even grapefruit.
- Maple syrup & vanilla - Together, this combo helps you flavor and sweeten your plain yogurt naturally at home.
- Textural add-ins - Texture is the key to a next-level yogurt bowl. Pecans and dried cranberries add crunch and chew, plus they complement the flavors of citrus & maple well.
How to Make Blood Orange Maple Pecan Yogurt Bowls
- Step 1: Make your yogurt base. Add the yogurt, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to a bowl and stir everything together vigorously, almost giving it a whipped texture.
- Step 2: Peel and segment your citrus. Cut of the ends of your citrus, and carefully cut the peel away with a knife, using multiple downward slices. Ideally remove all the pith! Then peel the orange into segments and chop each segment into thirds.
- Step 3: Top and serve. Best part! Top yogurt base with orange segments, pecans, and cranberries. Optionally drizzle with more maple syrup, then devour! Other toppings that would be delicious include chia seeds, your favorite granola, or a homemade granola like our house favorite coconut chia granola.
Blood Orange Yogurt Bowl FAQs
For sure! Prep and assemble with the yogurt base, and top with orange segments, but I recommend waiting until the next morning to add pecans and cranberries. This way they maintain the best texture! Prep in mason jars for grab and go in the morning.
