This is the all-purpose herb yogurt sauce you need for dipping basically anything! Cooling and packed with fresh herbs, it's there for you as a creamy dip or spread that's ready in 5 minutes.
This is our everything yogurt sauce right now! And I mean everything. If you're a ranch dressing person, the same logic applies-it brings an herby, creamy balance to whatever you're eating, whether it's dipped veggies or spicy chicken.
Most recently we've been using it as the primary sauce in creamy cucumber salad for easy weeknight side dishes. We've also done our share of slathering it onto pita sandwiches, dipping dill roasted potatoes into it, and generously scooping it into dinner and lunch bowls. It's the perfect way to use up a bunch of fresh herbs at once, and can also be a crowd pleaser if you serve it as nourishing dip for fresh veggies. Let's make the recipe!

Key Ingredients + Notes

- What are the best herbs to use? The only herb I'm going to strongly insist on is dill! It's just next-level delish and gives dill dip vibes. Outside of that, be creative or let your CSA or garden guide you! Use up basil, tarragon, mint, cilantro, parsley, and/or chives. I don't recommend thyme, rosemary, or oregano for this one, as these are hardier herbs that overtake the flavor of the more tender herbs.
- What is the best yogurt to use? Plain whole milk Greek yogurt will provide the creamiest and richest results. You could also use 2% plain Greek yogurt, but I'd skip the nonfat yogurt here.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1
Combine herbs, yogurt, lemon juice, salt, and pepper into a bowl.

Step 2
Stir it all together until it's evenly combined.

Step 3
Serve as a dip with pre-chopped raw veggies, or spread onto pita sandwiches! We also having been loving spreading some onto a plate and layering roast potatoes and chicken over the top, so every bite gets some yogurt sauce.
Tera's Sustainability Tips
- Use up herbs! If you have more dill to use up, definitely give this reader favorite lemon dill hummus recipe a try. For parsley, try my fresh parsley walnut pesto!
- Store herbs properly to max out their shelf life. Herbs are notorious for spoiling quickly, especially when not stored properly. If you've had a whole thing of basil go bad within a day or two, I've definitely been there-it's such a bummer! But, over years of cooking seasonally and sustainably, I've found ways to store herbs so that they last, without using single-use plastic storage. Since we'll be using tender herbs in this recipe, most should be stored with stems in a jar or glass of water, like flowers.
