With late spring and early summer in the same month, produce really starts to pick up at the farmers market, early season CSAs, and our gardens (finally!). Let's talk about what's in season in June and how to use it in fresh, nourishing meals.
June feels like SUCH a gift when it comes to produce! Especially after a long winter in Wisconsin, this month marks the start of summer. The farmers markets are vibing with lively produce and flowers, CSAs are delivering the early season boxes (mine starts the first week of June - yippee!), and gardens are sprouting.
Whether you're a pro at eating seasonally or just starting to dabble, I've put together this guide based to help you know what to look for and what to cook in June.
Perhaps my favorite part of seasonal eating is how it creates ritual around how we obtain and cook food, which helps me live more slowly and intentionally in the precious months of summer. Read on for some more details around June seasonal produce and recipe inspiration!

In June, be sure to stock up on:
- Vegetables: rhubarb, asparagus, snap peas, New potatoes, spring onions, lettuce, radishes, arugula, spinach
- Fruits: strawberries, sweet cherries
- Herbs: dill, cilantro, tarragon, chives
How to eat seasonally where YOU are: I speak generally about what it's season in June, but the reality is that the timing of these seasonal fruits and veggies will vary slightly across climates within the same hemisphere.
The best (and most fun!) way to know what's in season near you? Experience it for yourself! Go to local farmers markets, natural food co-ops, and sign up for a CSA share.
Notice what is local and available. Maybe even join a community garden or start your own, even if it's one simple pot of veg.

Easy Goat Cheese Crostini with Pickled Strawberries
A crowd-pleasing summer appetizer that can easily turn into dinner (you'll just want to keep eating it)! Goat cheese crostini with pickled strawberries is a delightful, unexpected, and bright way to celebrate strawberry season on the beginning of summer.

Spring Greens
CSAs are packed with greens in June, and they need to be eaten quickly (within 3-5 days is best). Here are some salads and recipes to use up those greens like spinach, arugula, lettuce, and chard.
Everyday Leafy Green Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
For those times when you need one more side dish to round out the meal! This simple leafy green salad will go with any meal and comes together quickly.
Fruity Caprese Pasta Salad
A twist on traditional caprese pasta salad with the addition of grapes, whole wheat pasta, and arugula. Perfect for summer picnics, barbecues, and making ahead for healthy lunches throughout the week!
Simple Citrusy Chard Salad with Beets and Carrots
This simple chard salad with beets and carrots is fresh, vibrant, and nourishing. Featuring leafy greens, crisp raw beets, crunchy carrots, and a bright citrus vinaigrette, it comes together in just 15 minutes. Enjoy it as a refreshing side or add protein for a more complete meal!
Radishes
Delicious raw with butter and salt, or roasted! If you buy radishes with tops, be sure to remove the tops before storing in the fridge to avoid the radish root losing moisture.
Save the greens for salads, or for tossing with your roasted radishes.
Peas
Snap peas and shelling peas start to show up at many farmers markets in June in Wisconsin, perhaps even earlier if you live in a warmer spot.
Snap peas make great snacks for kids, and are also delicious when thinly sliced on the bias (at an angle) and tossed into crunchy salads.
New Potatoes
I love love looovvee new potatoes! They're in season in early spring, with tender skin, sweet flavor, and creamy textures. Use them in any recipe you'd use potatoes, or try one of the recipes below.
Easy Pesto Potato Salad
An easy pesto potato salad with roasted potatoes and red onions tossed in your favorite pesto, with fresh parsley and chives. Serve warm or room temp as a side dish for summer barbecues or any time of year!
Tender Spring Herbs
Here are a few ways to use up dill, tarragon, chives, mint, and other early spring herbs you might get in your CSA share, farmers market, or garden.
Quick Creamy Cucumber Salad with Yogurt Dill Sauce
Make this creamy cucumber salad when you're wondering what else you should make with dinner! It's especially great as a side for cookouts and is ready in 20 minutes.
Vegan Parsley Walnut Pesto
This vegan parsley walnut pesto is SO simple and perfect for spring! Parsley is brightly flavored herb and delicious alternative to basil in pesto. Use on pasta, grilled fish or meat, or dip roasted veggies!
Pesto Pasta Salad with Chicken (Ready in 20 Minutes)
This simple pesto pasta salad with chicken tastes like a gourmet deli pasta salad and comes together in 20 minutes or less! It's packed with protein and can easily take on more veggies. Meal prep it for lunches all week, or share it as a potluck dish to serve a crowd.
